It has been a month!

massage-tablesIncredibly, we have now been here for 1 month and what a great month it has been. We are all enjoying the community we are living in (Buziga), like the “relatively” quiet lakeside Ggaba and are even finding our way around the city center of Kampala. We are starting to make some friends, and have even been invited out for dinner tomorrow night :) Reace is especially excited about our new found acquaintances. There are a number of children that live in the homes just outside our complex and he has made friends with them all. Even though they do not all speak english, their laughter is a universal language as they run around the houses giggling.

We have become more comfortable with travel on Matatu (bus/taxi), no longer get overcharged quite as often and are able to get almost anywhere we need to go. We still prefer not to take the Boda Bodas (motorcycles) as it can be quite dangerous, especially on the main roads. Many Ugandans do not ride the Boda Bodas on main roads either due to the risk. You should see the way they drive, weaving in and out of traffic which is crazy in itself. Pedestrians must be very aware.

massage-tables2Preparations for the massage school is coming together very well. We have purchased a tent, 18 feet by 30 feet, that is perfect for the school. We have seen the first massage table, made some necessary adjustments to the design, and the other 5 are in construction. The school set up should be complete within the next week, and then student interviews will begin. We have started to advertise the opening of the school and have even received our first student application.

Local Ugandans have been very helpful and interested in the program, which makes the whole project very exciting. The community supports the idea and the school.

Thank you all for your thoughts and support. It means a great deal to us knowing that there are so many involved, working to make this program a success.
